July 14th
Well now, this is going to be an interesting installment. LOL I have an announcement that I need to make. A lot of people already know what I’m going to announce from MySpace and Facebook; however, now it is time to make it official. I am announcing my semi-retirement from pro-wrestling. Starting January 1st 2011, I am only going to be taking very selective bookings for pro-wrestling. I will not be taking bookings from any new promoters and I am only going to continue working for the promoters that I enjoyed wrestling for, which as it stands right now aren’t many.
I got into this business a decade ago when I met Jake the Snake Roberts. I trained under one of the greatest minds that this business has to offer. Jake may have been a drug addict, but he knew this business better than anyone else ever did or ever will. As we all know I have always given credit to my first wife, Jamie, for getting me into wrestling. The dream started when I was a small child; however, the dream became a reality because of Jamie. Jamie was the reason for the beginning and she is also one of the reasons for the end. More on that later.
When I was a small boy I had a very simple dream. I wanted to be a pro-wrestler and a hero. That was my only dream, it was very simple. Over the years I lost sight of that simple dream. Recently, as you know, I had the opportunity to set with Jamie and talk. She reminded me of how simple my dream once was and told me that she was proud of me for making my dream a reality. I don’t know why, but once she said that to me it was like a weight was lifted. I knew at that moment I was going to slowly start walking away and leaving this business behind me. It was Jamie’s words that got me started and Jamie’s words that made me realize it was time to walk away.
Unlike many others in this business I am walking away with no regrets what so ever. After all, life is too short to live with regret. I have had a great run. Because of this business I have been in over 30 different states, worked for my guess is around 25 different promotions, met thousands of people, and have seen many awesome sights along the way!!!! I have also had the opportunity to work with some very wonderful and talented wrestlers over the years. I have been in the ring with some of the best and some of the worst.
I know I just said that the journey of a pro-wrestler started with and ended with Jamie, but its not that simple. She is definitely by far the main reason for me walking away, but that isn’t the only one. Another reason why I have made this decision is because since achieving my dream the backstage bullshit just isn’t worth it anymore. Because of being fucked over and over again by people I trusted; I lost my love, passion, and happiness that I once had for wrestling. I’m by no means going to mention a single name though because I don’t want a single one of them having the satisfaction of knowing that they were part of my reason for walking away.
I would like to stress that I am not totally walking away just yet though, I am going to continue to work for promotions that I still enjoy working for. There isn’t many promotions that I work for that still make me happy; however for those that do, I am going to continue working for them until I am no longer happy working.
I have met some great wrestlers and some wonderful fans in my decade in this business. Thank you one and all. You the fans and the few great people that I have met have made this business bearable when I was at my lowest point. You truly are the greatest people in the world. Thank you for always supporting me, I truly do love you.
Now, I’m sure some of you are wondering what is next for The Snakeman Deven Michaels. Well, I may be walking away from the wrestling business, but I am not walking away from the fans or from entertaining. I am moving onto bigger and better things. I will still be the greatest damn entertainer around. I am starting up and will be touring with one helluva magic act.
That’s right ladies and gentleman, I am going to be the best damn magician this world has ever seen. I have been studying and training. I am putting an act together that will make anyone believe in magic. It doesn’t matter how big of a skeptic you may be, because when I am done, I will make a believer out of you.
I have a new passion and I love it. I am more excited about my new act than I have been about anything in a very long time. The magicians that I have been spending time with have welcomed me in with open arms. There is no bullshit anymore. Everyone around me is being very supportive, and I am grateful for each and everyone of them. There is nothing better than seeing the look on a child’s face as magic is performed. It is the most priceless thing in the world.
I have just been playing with small stuff and the pops I have been getting is unbelievable even to me. I can’t even express how happy I am to be walking away from wrestling to start touring with my new act. I hope that my fans will follow my new career path and make it to my shows when I am in an area near you.
As was once told to me the past is the past. Very soon wrestling will be my past. I had a great time for the most part. I know this is the right decision for me. I would like to thank the fans once again, I hope to see you soon at my shows. I also want to say thank you for all the people that are supporting my decision and helping me make my magic act a reality.
Until next time,
